Bio

Jose Calderon founded The Calderon Law Firm because he wanted a practice built entirely around one question: what is best for the client? For Jose, that isn’t a slogan — it’s the standard behind every case the firm takes on, regardless of size or value.

Honesty and transparency come first in how Jose works with clients. He believes no one should ever feel kept in the dark about their own case, and that every person who walks through the firm’s doors deserves to be heard — no matter how large or small their case may be.

A Houston native and proud first-generation son of Mexican immigrants, Jose was the first in his family to attend college in the United States. He is fluent in Spanish and serves a diverse clientele from across the world. Jose earned his undergraduate degree in History, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin, and returned to his hometown to attend South Texas College of Law Houston on a Dean’s Merit Scholarship for all three years. While in law school, he served as President of the Texas Exes Law Society and participated in student government.

Jose’s achievements have earned him recognition from his peers in the legal profession, including five consecutive years as a Texas Super Lawyers Rising Star, four years as a National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 honoree, and recognition by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch. He previously served on the Continuing Legal Education Committee for the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Bar College. He is also qualified to serve as a mediator and has been appointed by state court judges to serve as guardian ad litem for minors in state court proceedings.

Jose has obtained several seven- and eight-figure settlements and verdicts for his clients. In one case, he took a non-commercial motor vehicle collision to trial after rejecting an inadequate $26,000 insurance offer, ultimately resolving the matter for $1.9 million following his client’s back surgery. In another, he took a second look at a case another attorney had rejected over a disputed fault determination — securing an amended police report and a $250,000 result. Following the 2021 Astroworld tragedy in Houston, Jose and his firm moved quickly to preserve evidence and filed the first lawsuit connected to the incident, later becoming part of the first group of attorneys granted access to the site during the investigation; that matter ultimately resolved confidentially.

Jose has spoken at the Filevine Lex Summit on workplace culture and client care, and regularly mentors students through the University of Houston Mock Trial Association. He has been interviewed by Voyage Houston Magazine and featured on ABC13, including coverage of his representation of individuals who suffered chemical burns in a fraternity hazing incident in College Station.

Community involvement has been part of The Calderon Law Firm since it opened, including support for the East End Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament, the D10 Lion Soccer Club, the University of Houston Mock Trial Association, the Mayor’s Hispanic Heritage Awards, Sky High for Kids, and local schools and youth sports programs.

Jose is the proud father of two young girls. His wife is also a trial lawyer at the firm, and outside of work he enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family.
